Kasvu-sarjaan kuuluva Ytimessä-kirja on suunnattu niille oppilaille, joille oppikirja ei vielä sovi esimerkiksi kielellisten haasteiden vuoksi. Ytimessä-kirjassa sisältö ja aineistot pohjaavat varsinaiseen oppikirjaan. Myös rakenne noudattaa varsinaisen oppikirjan rakennetta. Jokainen jakso alkaa jakson tavoitteilla ja herättelevällä kuvalla kysymyksineen. Luku on aina kahden aukeaman pituinen.
